From Greg Wischer at the United States Department of the Interior: “The Theodore Roosevelt Island National Memorial, with two fountains and a 17-foot statue of Theodore Roosevelt, was just repaired, cleaned, and beautified, after experiencing chronic periods of disrepair. The fountains were fixed; the statue was cleaned and waxed; and the granite elements were pressure washed. The memorial was dedicated on October 27, 1967–Theodore Roosevelt's 109th birthday. It is the only presidential memorial in Washington, D.C., where the landscape itself serves as the primary tribute to the president—a mature native woodland designed to reflect Roosevelt's conservation legacy.”
